Avid Technology's Video division has unveiled "New Thinking"; – a customer-focused campaign designed to improve the way the company connects with all of its users and prospects. The new campaign revolves around four main objectives: increasing the value of Avid's products, workflows, and services; advancing technical and customer support programs; investing in the community of media professionals; and fostering an open, two-way dialogue with customers. With a wide range of initiatives planned to roll out throughout the year, the company has recently announced the following:
New, lower pricing of Media Composer software:$2,495 USMSRP: Increasing the accessibility of the industry-standard digital video editing application to a wider range of users.
The consolidation of software editing applications – merging Avid Xpress Pro software into the Media Composer product line. The company will offer existing Avid Xpress Pro customers a pathway to upgrade to Media Composer software for $495 USMSRP.
A new online community – introducing new ways for industry professionals to access and share tips and tricks, demonstrations, tutorials and media content; as well as opportunities to connect with both Avid and industry peers.
Enhanced online customer support – delivering Avid® support customers easier access to more accurate and personalized answers to important product and service queries, 24/7, without having to call Customer Support.
New student pricing for Media Composer software – enabling any student at an accredited college or university with a valid student I.D. to purchase Media Composer software at Avid’s educational price.

In the timeline fast menu under Audio data, select "Auto Pan". You can plot key frames and adjust panning by:
Dragging key frames in the timeline segment up for left channel positioning or down for right channel positioning - center is mono.
Plotting key frames and adjusting pan values on the audio mixer tool.
Use an external fader controller (like Digidesign Command8) that supports automation pan adjustment or recording. Note that Auto Pan rubber banding and Auto Gain rubber banding cannot be displayed simultaneously on the timeline (it's an either/or situation), but both sets of values are honored on playback.

Using Multiple Source Windows
In Media Composer, when you alt-double click (PC) or option-double click (Mac) on a clip in a bin it opens in its own source window, with all the typical source window buttons and monitor output. You can have multiple clips open at the same time, which is very helpful when matching clips, or when reviewing footage/takes with a client, since it's faster than finding and then loading each clip into the source monitor. You can even edit just by dragging the display to your timeline

Why do I get the message "FILE_OTHER, filename:" when trying to access media on a Medea VideoRAID?
If you use an Atto UL4D SCSI card and the RAID is configured as "basic" instead of "dynamic" you will notice that capturing to that drive will fail. This is caused by the fact that the Atto card could send larger block counts to the drive than it is configured for. You could either configure the RAID to be "dynamic" or limit the block counts sent to the drive.
Therefore you need to download the Atto UL4D driver from http://www.attotech.com and decompress to a folder on your hard drive.
Open this folder and search for the file "ELT-1MB.reg"; double-click it.
You will be asked to confirm if the information should be added to the Windows Registry, which you need to accept.
Reboot the system.
Now the I/Os from the Atto card will be limited to 1MB maximum.
Why is there no HD SDI embedded audio output to Sony PDW-F70 XDCAM deck possible?
Assuming HD SDI output is enabled on audio project settings, be sure the Sony firmware for the PDW-F70 deck is version 1.6.2. You can download it here: https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software.aspx. Consult the Sony deck manual for uploading the firmware to the deck.
Why do I get a message "executable error pointing at nvoglnt.dll" when saving titles to a bin from Marquee?
Check the Hardware Acceleration setting for Multi Display. If it is set to Multi Display Performance mode, please set it to Single Display mode and restart the application.
